The Soccer World Cup

The Soccer World Cup is coming up soon, and excitement is rife in Mrs Love's house!
Over the next month or so, we are going to be doing a little bit of learning about the World Cup, and the teams, players and countries involved.

Today each student lucky-dipped a team that will be there team to support over the course of the tournament. Some people were luckier than others!

If you need a reminder, underneath is the team that each person chose.

Tia- Colombia                                                          Paige- Spain
Skyla- Croatia                                                          Mya- Italy
Khushi- Uruguay                                                      Tarshay- Iran

Mrs Love- South Korea                                          Jono- Brazil
Mrs McCourt- Switzerland

There were also three teams that did not get a supporter. They are Algeria, Belgium and Russia.

For a headstart, research what the flag of your country looks like!
This is South Korea's flag.

Postcard Week 4

Well done to Mya Wallace who earned the postcard this week.
Mya is a real superstar learner. She learns very quickly, but she still practices......a lot!
She is great at learning her spelling words and basic facts for her homework- she is the only student in Room 12 who has got every spelling word right this term, and every multiplication fact. So impressive!
Mya also has a fantastic attitude and is a real role model to others in the room. She is a real example of "getting out what you put in".
What a superstar!!!

Thank you

Thank you to all of the parents who found the time to come into school over the last two days to talk about their child's progress in learning and behaviour. It was great to see so many of you, and to discuss some topics with you.

In addition, well done to all of the students who were able to talk about some of their learning, and who were patient and receptive to the discussions about and involving them.

You all did a great job!

A family in need

Hey everyone,
There is a family in need at our school at the moment.
One thing we can do to help them is to donate some food.
Only if you can, please try to bring along a can or packet that we could put together to make a food parcel to help out this family. Anything would be great!
It is always nice to do what you can to help others.
Thanks,
Mrs Love

Did you know that camels have got 3 eyelids?

Two of them are just like ours, but the third one is different!
The third one can work like windscreen wipers in the camel's eye, but it can also be seen through. In a sand storm, the camel can close it's third eyelid to protect it's eyes, and it can still see where it is going!

Postcard Week 3

Well done to Connor who was this week's postcard earner.
He has had a fantastic week. He is using lots of new skills with his writing, and he had another high score on his spelling test.
Connor has excellent behaviour, and never says a bad word about anyone. He has given a huge effort with the ten minute run, getting better every week!
He has a super attitude and has been doing an awesome job in all learning areas.
Great job Connor!

Today I was also lucky enough to see a special moment when Connor celebrated his postcard with his mum Christine. It was so exciting for all of the students as we watched from the classroom window.

This is the first time I have ever seen this!

A lovely moment!

Fact of the Day

Hi everyone, this fact was found by Oskar and it is a really interesting one! (I think so anyway!)

Did you know that the country of Afghanistan has only 1 pig? In the whole country! His name is Khanzir and he lives at the Kabul zoo.

In Afghanistan, many of the people who live there are Muslims. This is a kind of religion. One of the aspects of their religion is that they do not eat pork. Since hardly anyone eats pork, there are no pig farms and no shops that sell pork, so there are no pigs!

I wonder how New Zealand would cope without bacon!
