Postcard Recipient: Week 2

Well done to Oskar who received the postcard this week. He has been working really hard, and he has been working hard to meet goals for the week. I have appreciated his honesty and commitment to learning this week. Oskar has been great at working with others, and has shown a big improvement with listening. He also has taken more time with the presentation of his work this week.

Oskar is a great learner and made really good improvements with managing his time this week.
Well done!

Commonwealth games

Hey everyone,
I hope you enjoyed what we managed to see of the commonwealth games this morning.
Didn't Valerie Adams look proud?!

Tonight NZ has it's first athletes in action.
There are all sorts of SKY tv. And there is also some on Prime TV and Channel one.

We have got swimmers, lawn bowlers, track cyclists, rhythmic gymnasts  and triathletes all in action tonight, and others too.

I wonder if we can win a medal tonight?

Andrea Hewitt might be one of our best chances. Who has her?

Also, I read that after the commonwealth games asked for donations this morning, they raised over 7 million dollars. Wow!

Spot the difference

These two pictures are from the classroom today.

Can you spot any differences?
Put any that you notice in the comments.

Fact of the Day

This is a special holiday fact from Liske.

Did you know that if you eat something hot and spicy, water is not the best thing to cool your mouth down?
Milk or yoghurt is!

I wonder if she learned this from personal experience, or researched it.

Loom band fans

In Room 12 there are some big fans of loom bands. I have seen many different styles of bracelets and ropes being made from loom bands. However, I do not think anyone in Room 12 has ever made anything like this!
Click on the link below to see an amazing loom band creation.

Holiday updates

Hey everyone,
You are halfway through your holidays now. What has everyone been up to?
Jono and I have been busy doing some gardening in our yard. We found a huge family of snails living in some weeds. We saved lots of them and re homed them in the compost heap.

I have heard from Oskar, who has been cursing around the north island, and I know Georgia was having a special girls trip with her mum.
George has been watching the Fifa World Cup, and I know Tarshay and Paige have been busy with some blog comments.
Has anyone done anything fun?

Donation Circle

This is one of my favourite things that we do in Room 12.

We run a fern dollar system where children can collect money that they can then spend on catalogue items. Students who earn more money can buy more/better items.

This is a video of the donation circle. Students are each given 5 fern dollars and must donate to another classmate. They can give it for any reason they like.

It is a great way for the students to recognise each other for their achievements during the week, or the qualities they possess.

Postcard Person- Week 9

Well done to Paige who was this week 9'd Postcard Person.
She has an excellent week at school, and really pushed herself to get all of her work up to date and completed.
She came 2nd in the quiz, and managed to come 2nd in the colouring competition as well.
She always has a positive attitude and a lovely smile in the classroom. She is a beautiful friend to all of her classmates, and can treat everyone with respect.
Paige is such a lovely student to have in Room 12.

Victorious Victoria

Well done to Victoria who was our quiz champion. She scored a 70 out of 100, which is a great score.
There was hardly any points splitting up the top 15, so many kids did so well!

Victoria did especially well in the Solar System section getting a 10/10. This was the only ten scored in any category by anyone.

People who scored 9
