Scarecrow success
One of the activities we did on camp was to design and build a scarecrow. The kids and adults did an amazing job!

Well done to Keighan who was the recipient of the Week 7 postcard.
She was amazing on the Camp Omatua trip, participating in everyone activity, and giving her very best.
Her behaviour in the classroom is exactly like this. She is a good demonstrator of Parkvale P.R.I.D.E, and she can find the enjoyment in any activity.

Postcard Recipient Week 6: Paige Holloway
Well done to Paige, Room 12's latest postcard recipient.
Paige is a conscientious worker, with plenty of initiative and a great attitude.
She always is friendly to everyone, and can often be spotted helping someone out.
Paige treats all adults and fellow students with respect, and she has been very impressive in her artistic work as well.
She thoroughly deserves this postcard.

Postcard Week 5: Liske Halford
The postcard this week went to Liske Halford.
Liske is an excellent student who keeps trying until she has completely mastered a skill. She is a natural leader, and is absolutely determined in all learning activities.
She is a great swimmer, and has natural athletic skills.
Her behaviour and attitude are excellent.
Liske has an amazing understanding of what PRIDE is, and she always does her best to display it.
Well done Liske!

Pride Challenge
This weeks P.R.I.D.E Challenge was for each group to work together to create a tessellating pattern. That is a pattern that repeats using simple geometric shapes.
There were varied results, with some teams finding a pattern and getting started immediately, and others arguing their way to not finishing.
Challenges like this really require the students to give their personal best, show respect for others, and be determined to succeed. It really needs to be a co-operative effort!

Student-led conferences
It was so lovely to see so many families attend the student-led conferences this week. It was great to see the students showing their learning to their whanau, and it was equally nice to hear the positive responses from the families.
The students were all very proud of the things their parents had said.

Postcard recipient Week 4: Georgia Roil

Congratulations to Logan who was this week's postcard recipient.

P.R.I.D.E Challenge No.3
For today's P.R.I.D.E challenge, the students were in groups and working together to compete a challenge. The task was to use a small amount of Lego to make an animal of their choice.
The students could only have the items that they were given, and the tricky part was agreeing as a group, planning and creating their animal as a team.
Some team members had to really try to involve themselves, and others couldn't come up with a game plan quick enough.
Here are some of the animals.

An elephant

A giraffe

Rory
Rory is Room 12's class teddy.
Each night he goes home with a student who needs to take care of him, and write a journal about all of the things they got up to together.
Rory recently had his first trip to the dentist with Georgia.
Rory has also been to the park, scootering, the beach, swimming lessons, and many more places!

The Fern Dollar system
Hi everyone,
The Fern dollar system in Room 12 is a financial literacy and rewards system.
Students can earn fern dollars by completing work, great behaviour, being a positive role model and showing Parkvale P.R.I.D.E.
However, they also must earn enough money in the week to pay for their classroom bills (power, table rent, and bag hook rent).
Excess money can be saved and spent.........

Postcard Week 2- Victoria Sullivan

Dog Tricks
This dog can do tricks. You need to type in the instruction, spelling it correctly. What tricks can you get your dog to do?
New Zealand flag winners are......
We had our weekly P.R.I.D.E challenge today.
The task
Replicate the New Zealand flag on a larger piece of paper.
Students had just 45 minutes to work together to reproduce the flag effectively. This was quite challenging, and some teams struggled to work together, and to share their ideas well. Most teams worked effectively together, showing respect for each others' ideas, and showing determination to achieve this in the time given.
Mrs Lowe was the guest judge this afternoon, and she selected the flag made by Connor, Shaydn, Emma and Paige. She commented that they had made the best flag, especially the union jack, and the colouring was mainly correct and even.
Connor, Shaydn, Emma and Paige were also very good at working together. They quickly decided on a plan of attack, and worked to produce it.
What an amazing co-operative group!

Valentine's Day Love
With Valentine's Day coming tomorrow, Room 12 made some heart art showing the things that we each love. They look great, and the students had to think hard about the things that matter the most to them.

Some spiders are dangerous and some are deadly. There are 3 names for deadly spider bites named poison, venom and toxic. All spiders have a painful bite. These arachnids travel in four different ways: crawling, jumping, climbing and swimming. Creatures like these spin webs to catch their prey.

Horses
Description
Horses have hooves, not feet. They have a long tail to whack
flies away from their body. Horses have a mane over their neck and a little bit
over their head. Their ears prick back if they are angry. The horses neck has
the mane on it to stop it’s neck from getting sunburnt. The horses neck is
attached to the head, which has the ears, eyes and nose on it. It has 3 body
parts; the neck, the head and the body.
Habitat
Horses live on a farm. On the farm, there are paddocks.
Horses stay in the paddocks so they don’t go into peoples’ houses. At night,
they put the horses into stables so they don’t get cold at night.
Diet
All horses eat hay, hard feed and grass. Not all horses eat
carrots and apples. Some horses, like one of my horses, Maggie, eat oddfellows.
She doesn’t just like oddfellows, she loves oddfellows. They also eat oats.
Behaviour
Horses travel from farm to farm in a horsefloat. You can ride
horses too! Horses can gallop instead of running. Galloping is just like
jogging for horses. When horses are playing, they run, jump, buck and kick. You
don’t want to be in the horse paddock when they are like that!
